SEATTLE DATE: Kayaking at Agua Verde

Now that it is officially Fall and all of the beautiful colors are out in full force, I am going to revisit one of my most favorite dates I have been on with my husband, kayaking for two at Seattle’s Agua Verde!

It has been almost two months since we went on our little kayak adventure on Seattle’s Lake Union, and I absolutely can not wait to do it again. The date idea was actually my best friend’s, it was supposed to be a double date but their babysitting backed out and we decided to go any way. While there are a few different places in Seattle that you can rent kayaks, we decided to go with the well reviewed, Agua Verde Paddle Club and Cafe.

We tried to arrive right when they opened but ended up being a little late. Luckily we only had to wait about fifteen minutes to fill out paperwork (liability waver), get fitted for life jackets, and get launched into our two person Kayak. There are two options for exploration, towards Lake Union for city views, Gas Works park, and the house boast, or towards Husky Stadium and the Arboretum. Since the Husky/Boise game was going on, we decided to head towards Lake Union.

Having been raised in the Seattle area, I have seen many people kayaking the lake and Arboretum. I always thought that it would be fun, but never knew where to go. I have been on many boats before, but being in a kayak surrounded by big boats was a completely new and exhilarating experience. The day we went was one of those typical “Seattle Summer” GORGEOUS days, sunny and hot, the sky was clear, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. We enjoyed the sights, got to joke around with other people doing what we were, and we got to connect. We laughed, we splashed, and there were a few moments where we rolled with the waves in silence, taking it all in.

Although, I can not remember how much it cost exactly, it runs about the same as a trip to the movie theater. Reservations are not required and it is a first come first served basis, you can choose from singles or doubles (or paddle boards). There is a cafe, but we choose to go to Red Mill Burger instead so I can not vouch for it.

This is an awesome Seattle date idea… and I can not wait to go again!
